Glass on the Grass

A smart and stylish way to prevent your wine glasses from tipping & protect your food from flies.

Glass on the Grass originated from a simple, yet relatable experience on Mt. Hotham. Stephen and Lee, inspired during a summer music festival, faced the common picnic dilemma – where to put their wine glasses while enjoying delicious food. After numerous wine mishaps, Stephen, an Industrial Designer, envisioned Glass on the Grass™, a slide-on coaster that stabilizes wine glasses on grass, blankets, sand, and various outdoor surfaces.

Through prototypes and positive feedback from picnics, B.B.Q.s, and pool parties, Glass on the Grass™ became a reality.

With a commitment to sustainability, they partnered with a local manufacturer, ensuring zero waste in the production process and utilizing recycled materials whenever possible.

Lee’s expertise in design, brand, marketing, and sales propelled Glass on the Grass into a beloved product. The success inspired the creation of ShooFly, an eco-friendly food cover for outdoor feasts.

Their journey reflects a passion for enhancing outdoor dining experiences with family and friends. We’re proud to be a part of this journey with them.

Stephen Flewellen is the Inventor, Co-Founder, and Design Director of Glass on the Grass. With over 20 years of experience as an accomplished Industrial Designer specialising in Retail Point of Sale design, Stephen has a proven track record in product design. Glass on the Grass is the first product in which he holds 100% joint ownership.

Originally from South Africa and raised by British parents, Stephen’s journey led him to permanently relocate to Australia five years ago. In his role, he oversees product design, development, prototyping, tooling, production, and point of sale. Collaborating with world-class product and fabrication engineers, he ensures the seamless integration of form, function, and usability.

Determined to produce the final product in Australia, Stephen partnered with an Australian-managed prototype and tooling company based in China. This collaboration allowed for the development of the prototype and the creation of the injection molding tool necessary for production, which was then shipped to Australia, weighing a tonne.

Additionally, Stephen is the creative mind behind the name Glass on the Grass™.
