The Note Book Hard Cover – DYM931 features a powerful teaching painting by artists Damien and Yilpi Marks. This artwork describes the dry season in Damien’s homeland, Mount Liebig, in the Northern Territory.
The painting shares cultural knowledge passed down to Damien by his great-grandparents. It illustrates both landscape and daily life during the dry season. At the top of the painting, red shapes represent bush potatoes gathered by women and children. The women prepare for inma (ceremony), while a man, wati, sits holding his waru (spear).
Controlled burnings take place across the dry spinifex. These burns help new fruits grow and care for the land in a sustainable way. The small star-like symbols throughout the artwork represent women’s body paint, applied to one another in preparation for ceremony.
A dry creek bed, shown in red and white, runs through the composition. The painting also depicts cracks in claypans, dried rockholes (tjukula), and sandhills (tali). Together, these elements form a visual map of country during the dry season.
The Note Book Hard Cover – DYM931 transforms this meaningful teaching painting into a durable and practical notebook. Its hard cover provides strength and protection, making it ideal for journaling, note-taking, planning, or creative writing.
Whether used at school, work, or home, this notebook offers more than function. It carries story, culture, and connection to land. It also makes a thoughtful gift for those who appreciate Indigenous art and cultural expression.
By purchasing this notebook, you support Aboriginal artists and the continuation of contemporary cultural storytelling.
